History

The Futura Group is proud of its history in providing specialist design solutions for the global community for more than 25 years.

Founded in 1987 by David Abel, Futura's success has been built on the simple principal high quality design expertise with a personable and friendly touch.

The story begins in Kingswinford, West Midlands where Futura established itself as the sole distributer of styling clay to the UK automotive design industry. Its customer base soon grew with clients such as Jaguar, Land Rover and Bentley also requesting the production of clay scale models.

With growth came relocation and a move to a new 20,000sq/ft facility in Garretts Green, Birmingham. By now one of the largest independent design houses in Europe, Futura worked with an ever growing list of clients the included Isuzu, Nissan, Jaguar Land Rover, Aston Martin, Bentley, Adam Opel, Volvo and Hyundai. The period from 1998 to 2010 saw Futura's skilled Clay Modellers producing more than 20 show cars for the global stage.

By now the Futura team included Apprentices, Hard Modellers and Patternmakers, many of whom gained skills and experience that have seen them go on to become amongst the industries finest Clay Modellers and Design Managers. Futura is proud to have given so many people long and successful careers in the automotive design industry.

With an enviable reputation for quality and integrity, customers had also begun to approach Futura with a view of sub-contracting staff to assist with internal programmes; it was this demand that led to the creation of Futura's Recruitment Division. Since those first placements in 1998 the Futura Recruitment Division has established itself as a market leader. With more than 5,000 experts on its database Futura Recruitment provides resources to OEM customers globally.

In 2011 the decision was made to combine Futura's UK office in Hagley with the Design Studio in Garretts Green, re-locating them to new premises in Oldbury, West Midlands. With the move came significant investment in new machinery with state of the art milling, measuring, and scanning equipment as well as upgrades in IT hardware and software. Both the move and the investment were an important step in the Futura Group's long term business plan to maintain and extend its position as a market leader within the automotive design industry.

With our Manufacturing facility, Design Facility, Recruitment Division and European office in Germany, the Futura Group continues to invest in its clients futures and in 2014 this was demonstrated with the opening of an additional, purpose built Design Facility in Warwickshire. With 25,000sqft of studio space, large design review galleries and ample meeting spaces, the Futura Estate confirms the Futura Group's position as a leading global player in automotive design and signals an exciting new chapter in the Groups long term plans.
