Ayline Koning Joins Futura Design and Clark Abel as Head of Design

01 June 2014

World leading automotive design company Futura Design and its luxury brand Clark Abel have an award winning new designer, Ayline Koning.

Clark Abel Chairman, Geoff Cousins said: "We're delighted that Ayline has joined the Futura Group, she brings a fresh and exciting artistic approach and is a critical element within the development of our Bespoke Brand, Clark Abel. Her experience in both high end automotive and luxury lifestyle designs further strengthens our ability to deliver stunning, bespoke creations to our discerning customers."

Hailing from the Provence Region of France, Ayline studied architecture at the Louvres, before obtaining a degree in product design at the National ENSAAMA College in Paris. Her first commercial engagement started soon after when she joined a trend setting agency followed by a position with Citroën.

Ayline's passion for automotive design soon led her to the UK where she studied car design, achieving a degree from Coventry University before completing a Masters at the Royal College of Art. Whilst at the RCA, Ayline also won a Renault sponsored design competition where she explored the role of vehicle personalisation with her concept: "the essential is in the accessory".

Her final asymmetric project "Aura" was recognised with the Pilkington Award for best overall design and she was also the first woman to win the prestigious Giugiaro award for innovation.

Ayline was sponsored by Land Rover, working on one of their most sensational show cars the Range Stormer, for which she created the vehicles unique seats together with innovative storage solutions, integrated luggage accessories, a glass roof system, glass spoiler and centre console elements. Ayline's fascination with lighting designs also resulted in the vehicles unique crushed ice effect which was applied to the Range Stormer's interior and exterior lights.

Her unique designs did not go unnoticed and Ayline then began working for French product and interior designer Philippe Starck.

Ayline has travelled extensively, lived in Sweden and also worked in Germany. A gifted linguist she utilised her language skills for Johnson Controls when delivering projects for BMW, Daimler Chrysler, Kia, Toyota and Mercedes Benz within the production and innovation teams. Back in the UK she also worked exclusive Dutch brand Spyker at UltraMotive.

Ayline's versatility and creativity has resulted in a stunning portfolio of lifestyle creations. A talented and innovative designer, Futura is delighted to welcome Ayline Koning to the group.
