For the past 4 years, Futura Group has sponsored Workshop Foreman Roy Wilding with his dragster racing. A talented and ambitious, yet ultimately modest racer who Futura are proud to support.
Roy has been building and racing since the age of 19, which he muses as his ‘hot rod days’. Having competed for more than 25 years Roy is now considered as one of the finest tuners and builders in the country, one of his current cars ‘Chariot of Fire’ being entirely his own work. Roy said “I build my own cars to keep costs down, but I also end up building cars for other racers - So I can end up racing against my own work!”
So far this year, Roy has competed in 6 Sinclair & Kemp races and with “no intentions of ever growing up!”, it doesn’t look like he will be stopping any time soon. Currently working on his fifth car of the season, Roy is looking forward to his trip to Las Vegas later on this month. Assisting with two NHRA events, as well as attending a number of races as a spectator, it’s a trip Roy has been looking forward to all year. Assisting Rob and Steve Turner of Turner Racing, Roy will be working on their Top Alcohol Car for the National Event. As well as this, he will be assisting on the NHRA Divisional Round and ultimately the World Final. Whilst in the USA, Roy will be collecting some parts to bring back to the UK for his current and future projects.
Next years’ 2017 season of racing it set to be yet another exciting one, seeing the return of the Futura Design sponsored 24ft long machine, nicknamed ‘Chariots of Fire’. Updated with a new engine, gearbox and tune-up (Courtesy of Good Vibrations Motorsports), the green machine will soon be capable of 200mph in an astonishing 6 seconds.
An award winning team, Roy and his crew of four friends recently won ‘Best Appearing Team’ at this years Dragstalgia, which takes into consideration their racing conduct, team presentation and pit area appearance. The team at Futura are now looking forward to seeing Roy in action at his next Dragstalgia event, which will be held at Santapod in the new year.
“I would like to sincerely thank Futura for all their support over the years” Roy Wilding.
